Would You Like Some Fresh Air?

Would You Like Some Fresh Air?

“Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

Dr. Howard Thurman

Have you ever had one of those moments where, all of a sudden, you can see what you have been doing — and it no longer makes sense?

I just had one of these moments as I sat down to write this blog post. Since I started writing my blog, 10 years ago, I have written each post with the intention of being useful.

Today I sat down to start writing with that same intention. And then I thought, “How do I know what will be useful to someone? Who am I to be that judge?”

And then I heard the words “Write what makes you come alive.”

To do that, I have to feel it.

I have to drop out of my intellect and feel the Aliveness coming though. It is as if I am turning off a TV in my head that is always playing reruns of my life. It is like, while still inside my head, I have to go “outside” and play by a river, and see where it will take me.

And, eventually, something will take me. The current will sweep me up, because that is what life does.

This Aliveness takes people on curious, wild rides.

I used to doubt what would come through me. I would judge it and make it wrong, wanting what was coming through me to be different than it was.

But, I have learned that this Aliveness will create uniquely through me. I will not be like Elizabeth Gilbert or Ann Patchett.

What comes through me will be uniquely Anna Scott.

I am seeing that this Aliveness is simple.

Not only will this Aliveness create something unique to me, it will tell me when to go to the bathroom, when I am hungry, when I am tired. It tells me to call a person I haven’t thought of in a while. It tells me if the shoes I am trying on, fit well. It will even tell me if a person or a job is right for me.

I am getting better at listening to this Aliveness. And it is way more fun and freeing.

If you would like to feel more of your Aliveness, reply to this email, or call me: 510-919-2254.

Also, if you would like to listen to Aliveness in action, I invite you to listen to my podcasts. In these conversations, I get present with another human being, and see what touches me. I have to tell you, I am having a blast doing these interviews. I hope you enjoy them!
