A Walk in the Woods

A Walk in the Woods

In the last month I have taken up a practice of walking in the Oakland Redwoods once a day. Usually it is early in the mornings, when there are few people on the trail. Most mornings there is fog and dew dripping from the trees. Every once in a while I get to see the sun rise through the redwoods. The quiet and space that is available to me is mind boggling. I must say when I go on the weekends for my hike I get a little persnickety because there are so many more people. I have come to think of the Oakland Redwoods as my private space.

This practice started when I took a new client out to Moss Beach for the weekend to work. I wanted to work with this client in nature because I know that nature has a way of working us and holding us. Early in the morning before we began, I hiked by myself for an hour on the beach. During these two days I had powerful insights and felt grounded and strong. I thought - why not continue this and see what happens?

Thirty plus days I am still doing it. I am also now taking clients on hikes for our coaching sessions. I have found that Nature is my great assistant. Nature helps my clients gain a new perspective, see the bigger picture, feel more connected to themselves and something larger and feel more at peace inside. I may be out of a job soon.

If you have not walked in nature of late, I highly recommend you take your problem on a hike and see what happens at the end of the hike.

This month I am sharing a blog, Sales: An Inside Job. As you will read, I have a very different perspective on sales. I believe we all have to sell something; whether it is an actual product, or an idea to our boss, a business idea or a vacation idea to our mate. I believe - why not sell more from our true nature, it feels so much better. Enjoy.

This month I am also sharing a recommendation for a restaurant in Oakland. I love to cook and entertain but if you know me, you know I love to go out to dinner and have a wonderful meal that someone else cooks and cleans up. I love when people pour their heart into their craft which is my experience at Homestead. The kitchen was designed by my good friend Larson Shores. After you hike in the hills, meet someone you care about at Homestead.
