When the Dishwasher Leaked: A Mindset Experiment

This week, water from my dishwasher started spilling out of the air gap and onto the kitchen counter.

Money’s been tight lately, so I decided to try fixing it myself. As I got started, I noticed my thoughts:
“Poor me. This is hard. Why does this always happen?”

That old, familiar victim story was running in the background.
And then I remembered—I teach mindset coaching.
And I’ve been studying Gene Key 48, which speaks to the shadow of inadequacy and the journey to resourcefulness—a deep trust that we already possess within us what we need.

So, I decided to apply what I teach—and live the lesson in real-time.

I shifted from “poor me” to “this is interesting.”
I thought, “ I get to figure this out.”

Almost instantly, my mood lifted. I became curious and engaged.

I pulled all the pipes out from under the sink, found the clogs, and noticed what was broken. Then I headed to my local Ace Hardware with an open mind and open heart. A kind salesperson helped me find exactly what I needed, even cutting pipes to fit the correct size. A true angel.

I came home, reinstalled everything, ran the dishwasher—and it worked.
And… I had a good time.

It turns out that this mindset stuff works.

If you're curious about how mindset and emotional clarity can transform your experience—in your work, your relationships, or even when life gets complicated—I’d love to talk.
