What Do You Desire?
I've been reading The Way of Mastery, and one of its invitations has stayed with me.
Explore desire.
Don't try to fulfill it.
Don't judge it.
Simply become curious about it.
So, for the past several months, I've been asking myself the same question every morning.
What do I desire?
At first, it was simply an exploration.
I realized I had become disconnected from my own desire.
When someone asked me what I wanted, I would most often say, "I don't know."
Then I would answer with things like...
A healthy body.
A beautiful home.
Lots of money.
A secure job.
One morning, I realized those weren't necessarily my desires.
They were the answers I had learned to give.
Ideas about success, security, and what a good life should look like.
So I kept asking the question. What Do I Desire?
Morning after morning.
Without trying to find the right answer.
Without trying to make anything happen.
Then, almost without noticing, something shifted.
What began as an exploration became an experience.
I stopped trying to understand desire.
I began experiencing it.
Developing a relationship with it.
Listening to it.
Trusting it.
Through this practice, I've come to see desire differently.
Desire isn't something to fear.
It isn't something to suppress.
It isn't something I have to obey.
It's an energy I can have a relationship with.
The deeper my relationship with desire becomes, the more it reveals who I am and what I truly want.
That realization has changed the way I experience life.
Instead of trying to figure life out, I find myself becoming curious about it.
I feel more childlike.
More playful.
More filled with wonder.
Every morning has become a little adventure.
I've found that the more I allow desire to speak, the more alive I feel.
If this speaks to you, I'd love to invite you to try the same practice.
For the next week, spend ten quiet minutes each morning with one question:
What do you desire?
Become curious.
Have fun.
See what begins to reveal itself.
And if you'd like someone to explore, experience, and discover alongside you, it would be an honor to support you.
