When It's Time to Leave the Business You Built

Dear Friend,

Today I watched you begin the process of leaving the business you built.

It was beautiful.

And heartbreaking.

You spoke about leaving something that has held your time, your attention, your creativity, and your heart for many years.

As I listened, I found myself wanting to remind you to be so tender with yourself.

It is such a deeply human experience to leave something we have poured our life into.

There is grief.

There is uncertainty.

There is beauty.

Sometimes we think we're grieving the business we built.

What we're often grieving is the identity we built inside it.

The person who solved the problems.

The one everyone depended on.

The one who carried the vision.

The one who always knew what to do.

For years, that identity served something meaningful.

It helped build a business.

It supported people.

It created value.

And now, its season is coming to an end.

That doesn't mean you are.

Underneath every identity is something that never leaves.

Your light.

The part of you that doesn't come or go.

The part of you that isn't defined by a business, a title, or everything you've accomplished.

The part of you that is already whole.

Already filled with love.

Already filled with intelligence.

Already enough.

You poured that intelligence into one season of your life and created something extraordinary.

Now that same intelligence simply wants another place to express itself.

Nothing has been lost.

Only the form is changing.

So if you are preparing to leave the business you built, be gentle with yourself.

You are not leaving yourself.

You are simply making space for the next place your light wants to shine.
