Energy Never Lies
The Truth Always Leaks Out
It was 7:00 a.m. I stood in line with a box of tampons and some Advil. When it was my turn, I handed them to the clerk. She smiled and asked how I was doing.
With my best smile, I said, "I’m fine."
She looked me straight and said, “You’re a liar.”
I burst out laughing—because she was right.
When I asked how she knew, she said the Advil and tampons were one clue. But mostly, it was my voice. “You sounded miserable.”
She didn’t just hear me. She felt me.
I’ve come to know this deeply through my work: our energy speaks louder than our words.
I can say “I’m fine”, but my tone, body, and presence will tell the real story.
I used to push down my feelings to “stay professional.” But the more I did that, the more misaligned I felt—in my work, my relationships, and my body. I’ve learned that truth and clarity only arrive when I’m honest.
Just the other day, I was on a collaborative call. My friend agreed with what I was saying, but I could feel friction. Something was off. So I paused and said, “I’m noticing some anger here—are you feeling it too?”
She paused. Then said yes.
At that moment, something shifted. We stopped pretending, and suddenly, we saw a new way forward.
This is the work of mindset—and of leadership.
We should honor what we feel, recognize that it carries valuable information, listen to it, and find our truth.
When I acknowledge the truth of what’s happening inside, the energy moves. It clears. I gain insight, direction, and, often… relief.
Feelings aren’t the problem. Hiding them is.
